Friday, October 31, 2008 is 13 lamat (Rabbit, Star). Happy Halloween everyone! This is not only the eve of All Saints Day, but the thirteenth day of the cycle in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. Wednesday gave us the exhale, and Thursday the pause between the breaths. Today is the star, the day to bring in the next breath and the possibilities that this new breath contains.
The cycle has been filled with darker days. Even today, with the clearer perception of lamat, the star, I find silence. Even looking outdoors it is a darker day. How fitting for Halloween. I would not have looked at lamat to be a day of darkness, but then my definition of darkness, until this moment of realization, tended to gravitate toward the “unfortunate” rather than the vast array of unseen possibilities.
We create these containers, within our mind and our heart, which contains the seeds of that which we will allow within our lives. We build those defining equations through our experiences, perceptions, and conditioning. But most importantly we discriminate and decide by the internal filtering system that is our viewpoint and value of self. Yes, we fear the unseen possibilities, for we know deep down who sets the tone for our future: we do. How ironic that we be given the full spectrum of light and then place limits on what we can see. But that is the ultimate adventure. On this day take that breath, no matter where it may lead you.
Today may be a dark day, but not a scary one, not unless you select that option. Whatever perspective you take I hope it brings you satisfaction and enjoyment. Happy Halloween to one and all.
