Lamat and Halloween: afraid of the dark?

Daily Insights 1 Comment »

Friday, October 31, 2008 is 13 lamat (Rabbit, Star). Happy Halloween everyone! This is not only the eve of All Saints Day, but the thirteenth day of the cycle in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. Wednesday gave us the exhale, and Thursday the pause between the breaths. Today is the star, the day to bring in the next breath and the possibilities that this new breath contains.

The cycle has been filled with darker days. Even today, with the clearer perception of lamat, the star, I find silence. Even looking outdoors it is a darker day. How fitting for Halloween. I would not have looked at lamat to be a day of darkness, but then my definition of darkness, until this moment of realization, tended to gravitate toward the “unfortunate” rather than the vast array of unseen possibilities.

We create these containers, within our mind and our heart, which contains the seeds of that which we will allow within our lives. We build those defining equations through our experiences, perceptions, and conditioning. But most importantly we discriminate and decide by the internal filtering system that is our viewpoint and value of self. Yes, we fear the unseen possibilities, for we know deep down who sets the tone for our future: we do. How ironic that we be given the full spectrum of light and then place limits on what we can see.  But that is the ultimate adventure.  On this day take that breath, no matter where it may lead you.

Today may be a dark day, but not a scary one, not unless you select that option. Whatever perspective you take I hope it brings you satisfaction and enjoyment. Happy Halloween to one and all.

Monday, September 1, 2008 is 5 lamat (Rabbit, Star):  Yesterday’s message was a set up!  How is that, you ask?  Simply stated, we receive what we allow ourselves to receive.

If yesterday you filled your thoughts with the beauty of the moment, with the breath resonating through your every waking moment, then you will receive that very gift today, on an exponential scale.  This expansion will come about gracefully and with great harmony, giving you an expansion of whatever you have allowed yourself to experience.

It is difficult to receive something new in its purest form. That would be like trying to fit the square peg in the round hole.  But something you have already known in some form or another, through vision, feeling, knowing, or believing, that you can have in a blink of the eye.  It comes easily because you already have it.

Does this sound like a riddle?  I think that is the point.  We have duality, and that leads us to balance. And balance contains our duality, for without it we lack either the energy or the momentum.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 is 11 lamat (Rabbit, Star): Today we carry forward the grace of Manik given to us yesterday into the higher dimension of the light. lamat is the star, and when accompanied by eleven we find an interesting dichotomy. Is it all about what we have been given, or is it about what we are able to give? To give you must have some glimmer of recognition that you have, how else can you give it? Perhaps our acts of expressing gratitude serve the purpose of giving us awareness of the great gifts we are presented each day.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 is 4 lamat (Rabbit, Star):  lamat shows us the opportunity to expand and recognize the benefits that come with expansion.  This is an earthly day as well, demonstrated by the four.  How do we express four?  Through the seasons, the solstices, and the creative cycle.

How can we enjoy the day of lamat?  Be in the moment, enjoy the fullness and completeness that is offered us, but remember this is only a stopover in the overall journey.
